Fishing Charter FAQ: Costs, Tips & What to Expect in Tampa Bay

  • Sunblock /SPF 50

  • NO fish, no-pay guarantee (Don’t worry, that never happens) 
  • Your saltwater fishing license

Due to high demand, it’s best to try and book in advance.

  • Gratuity is not required, but it is customarily based on your experience to pay 15 to 25%. Similar to what you might tip your waiter at your favorite restaurant. 

You do NOT need a fishing license when hiring Salty Scales or any legitimate fishing charter. We purchase a license for our clients annually and your license is covered in the cost of your trip. 

Most trips are 4, 6, or 8 hours depending on the type of fishing and your preference. I do offer offshore trips that tend to be longer. 

Absolutely, there is no better way to experience Tampa Bay fishing for a beginner in my opinion. An experienced guide takes the guess work out of where the fish are and will get you back to the dock safely. 

You can choose from inshore, nearshore, offshore, and specialty trips such as fly fishing.

Inshore fishing takes place in calm, shallow waters targeting species like snook, redfish, and trout.

Offshore fishing involves deeper water in the Gulf and targets species like grouper, snapper, tuna, and mahi.

Yes. Many charters are family friendly and welcome children of all ages. Salty Scales welcomes kids and families.
